Enhancing Data Security in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks via Multipath Routing and Directional Transmission.pdf
- In this work, a cross-layer approach is studied to improve data security in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANETs). To this end, the use of directional antennas and intelli- gent multipath routing is proposed to enhance end-to-end data condentiality and data availability with respect to outsider attacks. The goal is to impede rogue at- tempts to gain unauthorized access to classied information or disrupt the information ow. The interplay between the physical, link, and network layers is considered. A novel simulator is developed to accurately quantify the data condentiality benets of these approaches. This study expands on previous works, which seek to leverage the existence of multiple paths between end-nodes to statistically improve data conden- tiality and data availability in hostile MANET environments, where both insider and outsider adversaries may be present. Simulation results show that the proposed mech- anisms can greatly improve data condentiality as compared to existing schemes
